My review: Garden State

As I posted yesterday, Keli and I went to see Zach Braff’s new movie Garden State at the Rialto last night. It really was a good movie. It had the same sort of random humor to it as Lost in Translation, yet, it also had the same sort of introspective lesson to it.

Zach Braff and Natalie Portman both did a superb job in the movie. Their roles weren’t terribly difficult or challenging (in my opinion that is) but each did a great job at making the characters seem like real people and not just characters in a script. The R rating was mostly due to the profanity but also due to some scenes of drug use and a scene involving peeping-toms spying on guests in a hotel. So some may have a problem with the movie and may want to avoid it altogether.

I liked it at first and after it was over, the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. If it comes to a theater in your area, it’s definitely worth going to see.
