Republican National Convention

So the RNC starts today. I’m sure you all are aware of the massive protests in Manhattan over the weekend from a ton of groups such as United for Peace and Justice, etc. I’m sure Not In Our Name was there too. Today an organization called Still We Rise (which, if I recall correctly, is an organization of over 30 community based public outreach organizations) will protest. Earlier in the weekend there were biker groups protesting as well. The exact number of protestors is not known but I have heard reports of numbers ranging from 200,000 up to 500,000. In either case, one of the Marks on Morning Sedition radio today said it must feel very strange to have a minimum of 200,000 thousand people in the streets protesting you because they hate you.

Check out this picture of the protestors. It’s almost beyond words how a group this size is able to peacefully protest with very few incidents.

That’s what was going on in the streets over the weekend. Here is what was going on in the air and I’m sure on rooftops over the weekend:

Quite a different perspective, huh?

I really like both of those pictures. The sniper shot was taken by Mike Hvozda / Associated Press and the one of the crowd was taken by Stuart Ramson / Associated Press.
