Samurai Champloo, Vol. 1

I’m always on the look out for cool Samurai stuff. Why? Because the Samurai were cool as all get-out!

So when my friend John told me about the anime series called Samurai Champloo, I had to check it out. Thanks to the love and joy of bit torrent, I was able to download a few episodes - just enough to get hooked.

Last night Keli and I were watching TV and there was a commercial for the DVD release of Volume 1 of Samurai Champloo, the soundtrack on CD AND a cool “collectors box”. I’m a sucker for fancy packaging and am a marketing teams dream come true.

The website the commercial pointed viewers to about the DVD release (it was released on 1/11/05) is samuraichamploodvd.com. The problem is, it tells you about the various versions of the DVD release but they forgot to mention one thing - HOW DO WE BUY THE FREAKING DVD?!

Call me crazy, but if you pay for a commercial, and the astronomical fee it costs to actually air said commercial, your best bet is to point viewers to a website where they can actually buy the thing. I realize Amazon.com probably has it but samuriachamploo.com is in Japanese. But that’s not the point. They give you everything to wet your appetite and confuse your senses enough, with fancy animation and sound bytes, to grab your credit card but then you’re left at the bad end of an unfortunate joke. Talk about feeling cheated and used…
