Wednesday recap

Here’s a recap of my day yesterday:

Good news - I got a new job. Sort of. The Press Democrat was looking to fill a temp position in the News Research department. It’s an extra 3 hours per day and is slated to only be for a few weeks but does have the potential to turn into a long term opportunity. The pay has yet to be determined and there are a couple of things that the lady I spoke to will get back to me on. But unless something gets really strange, I’m the new News Research Assistant.

Bad news - On my way home from the mini-interview yesterday morning I got rear ended at a stop light by a big Ford F250 Super1 pulling a trailer. The jerkface that technically (not legally) caused the accident was a guy who decided to come to a complete stop at an already-green light. Then tried to convince myself and the guy who hit me and pushed me into the jerkface that the light was red. Apparently the fact that other cars in the other lane were still going on the green light was of little importance to him. Add to that a couple of hours of waiting in the E.R. hospital room to find out that I have a bad case of whiplash. Our car didn’t even have the plates yet… but I guess that’s why we pay for full coverage, huh?

Oh yeah, and remember that Georgia Nicols lady? The Crafter of Horroscopes for newspapers? Well today she warns all signs to “Avoid shopping or making important decisions from 3 p.m. until 17:40 p.m. today”. Now, am I high from the muscle relaxors still, or do those times not make any sense?

Hi,

I’m just a googlin around for blogs related to Santa Rosa and here I am.

2 Things

I work down the street from you at an engineering firm across from the pool hall. Small world.

I’m planning on moving to Boise soon. How are your parents adjusting?

cheers

Joe

Wow, it sure is a small world! I think I know what firm you’re referring to.

They’ve been in Boise for a little over a month now and are pretty settled in. They haven’t done a whole lot of exploring the area becasue they’ve spent most of their time meeting their neighbors and setting up their house.

They live on the outskirts of Boise closer to Meridian and Nampa so I’m not sure what they think of the actual “downtown Boise” area. The things they’ve noticed the most are:

1) It is light outside until a bit pas 10 p.m.

2) the weather changes at the drop of a hat. When we were there it was not - in the 80s - then about 20 minutes later the clouds moved in and the rain storm hit. The temp was still warm enough for shorts and a t-shirt but the weather isn’t nearly as predictable as it is in Santa Rosa.

3) According to my folks, Idaho has state run liquor stores where they sell the hard stuff - vodka, tequilla, etc. And they also heard that you can’t buy hard alcohol on Sundays. However, when the family and I went there a week or so ago, we found that a store called Paul’s sells hard stuff on Sundays. Just fyi…

Other than that they seem to like it there. It’s a bit of a culture shock being so far away from their family but they have a very nice, big house for half of what theirs sold for so they’re taking their time adjusting to the area.

What takes you to Boise?

We want to be able to eliminate our mortgage and start saving money. My wife isn’t working, we have a 1 yr old and a 3 yr old. We spent a week driving all around Boise and we really liked it. It was there or Portland. Since what I do depends on development Boise was a better choice, work wise.

I thought I wanted to live in Oregon until we drove through there on the way to Boise. What is with that stupi 55 mph speed limit in the middle of no where for 3 hours?!

Where my folks moved to they’re building a HUGE subdivision so Boise definitely seems to be on the move up.
