I posted the other day a question that came up after watching the remake of Amittyville Horror. One of the commenters, Logtar, posed the question of whether the devil really does make people do bad things. This sad story was in the news this morning. So, I’m curious, do any of you believe people when they give the “the voices told me to do it” explanation when they’ve just committed some horrid act? Do you think that there are evil spirits or evil forces out there that can lead people to do things, like what this mother of three did in San Francisco?

SAN FRANCISCO - Rescue crews late Wednesday night found a child’s body in San Francisco Bay after a mother threw her three young children in the water after stripping them of their clothes, authorities said.
A man called 911 at 5:30 p.m. to report that the children were tossed from Pier 7 into the chilly water, said San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White.

It is a very difficult question to answer. I believe that there are mental illnesses that can contribute to someone committing horrible acts that in people’s minds will materialize as the devil, or evil making them do stuff.
At the same time I have, like everyone else I hope, picture the little devil vs angel predicament when trying to make a decisions. The more I think about an answer the more I feel that the best trick the devil ever pulled of is to convince people that he did not exist.
