This weekend was a rather good one. Aside from being on-call Saturday afternoon for work and then being called into the office, on my day off, to help with local flood news, it was a good one.
Since I Thursdays are my Fridays (I work Sun-Thurs), I went out for a few drinks with Ian and some of our mutual friends to shoot the… you know… while he was in town for the holidays. If you ever go to the Russian River Brewery in downtown Santa Rosa, I highly recommend their Golden Pale Ale, which almost always is sold out by mid-to-end of the month, or their drink called “Damnation”. 7% alcohol served up in a snazzy wine glass looking thing. There was some dude there doing live music which consisted of him playing his keyboard butchering great songs like “Stairway to Heaven” and “Simple Man”, just to name a few. After drinks we walked down to the staple of the late-night drinker groups called Adel’s for some food. Good fun.
Friday was spent watching the kids and making some homemade slow cooker Sloppy Jo’s to take to a friend’s house. Every Friday, for the last bunch of years, a group of friends go over to our buddy Jim’s (aka: Doctor X – your friendly neighborhood mad scientist) for a game night. It’s really to get our geek on and indulge in some D&D – we just tell people it’s poker night.
Saturday was hanging out at the house mostly except for going in to work for a few hours. The rain was coming down pretty good so we kept a low profile. Saturday night, after I got off work my friend from back in Junior High came over. Her plans for New Year’s Eve fizzled out on her so I invited her over to, well, join us in our plans of doing nothing. Who wants to be alone when the new year slams into us, you know? Several rum & cokes (and Malibu & Pineapple juice) later we figured out how to play a new board game Keli got in a pirate gift exchange from Christmas and spent who knows how long playing it. Around 4 a.m. I realized what time it was and accepted the fact that I should just stay up instead of trying to get an hour of sleep before having to go to work at 6 a.m. Let me just say pulling all-nighters is still doable, but they are much more painful now than they were before two kids.
After work yesterday was spent doing a combination of sleeping, drinking LOTS of water to re-hydrate myself from a weekend of drinking, and eating. Oh, and more sleeping.
Water is your friend.
