The new Tiger Army album is due to land on a store shelf near you on June 5th! That’s right, ladies and gentlemen; the Psychobilly trio is back in full force with their latest release entitled “Music From Regions Beyond”
You can hear their new song “Afterworld” on their MySpace profile. The first single off of their new album will be available for download from iTunes on May 8th. “Afterworld” is a departure from their stand-up-bass-rich, garage band sound that initially drew me to the group. But I have to say, the “new” polished sound of “Afterworld” definitely does not disappoint.
Tiger Army always puts on an awesome, high-energy show when I’ve seen them live in the past. The biggest reason I went to their shows was because their bassist and drummer were phenomenal - lead singer Nick 13 is good too, but his stage presence isn’t enough to make me buy a ticket. You may recall, a couple years back drummer Fred Hell was shot when someone broke into his house. He returned for a short while to tour, but in the end, decided to put an end to his career with Tiger Army due to health reasons, as was announced on the band’s website by Nick 13 in July of 2004:
“We are very sorry to announce that our friend & brother Fred Hell will no longer be playing with Tiger Army, due to health reasons stemming from his shooting in March ‘03. Fred’s courage and hard work has been an inspiration to everyone, but he’s just not physically up to the challenge of touring. There are no hard feelings on the part of anyone, we’re all just thankful for the last three years of playing together and the fact that Fred’s alive. Best of luck to Fred in his continued recovery and pursuit of musical excellence, he will always be part of the Tiger Army family.”
Shortly after that, in September of 2004, “bassist Geoff Kresge announced his decision to leave the band to pursue other interests.” Kresge emerged shortly afterwards, so I heard, as a member of the HorrorPops.
The kick ass line-up of Tiger Army, as I saw it, had ended. Other Tiger Army fans have argued with me about this by stating that their sound hasn’t changed and the two musicians who stepped in to fill in are as good, if not better musicians than Geoff and Fred. In any case, enjoy their new song and I am presently chomping at the bit to get my grubby little paws on their new album in June.
