What Busta Rhymes and Linkin Park Can Teach You About Success

Busta Rhymes has released a new single, which features the crew of Linkin Park. Sure, it was an odd mix when I first heard about it. But after hearing the song, I think it’s great.

I’m only 26-years-old and obviously haven’t been around very long, in the big scheme of things, but I think it’s important to remember that, to be successful, you have to work your ass off.

In “We Made It,” Busta Rhymes talks about spending nights in jail, using that as motivation to change and never look back. Mike Shinoda waxes poetic about being constantly doubted, told they would fail, told that they had their “backs up against the wall” and that they spent hours perfecting and tightening their skills. For them, it took going out on the road in a make it or break it effort.

In the age of instant information, we’ve come to expect overnight success. But success — and failure — are rarely instantaneous. Success in particular almost always involves risk, planning, perseverance, failures and a significant amount rebellion and refusal to be beaten down.

When you’re in the thick of it, it’s easy to feel like success is taking too long to arrive and that will inevitably lead to self-doubt. In the pursuit of success you need to be focused and agile — self-doubt should not be your side kick.

Click here to watch the video and listen to the song. Even though Busta Rhymes’ neck is freakishly thick, the video is kind of cool.
