10 Important Lessons My Dad Taught Me

Just a short post about my dad. Not because tomorrow is Father’s Day, but just because it never hurts to stop and appreciate the things someone has done for you.
- Never turn your back on the ocean. Both literally and figuratively.
- Never degrade or disrespect your wife – especially in front of your kids
- No matter what your mother says, huge bowls of ice cream, sci-fi movies and baseball are some of mankind’s greatest achievements.
- Help others in need whenever you can.
- Never pick a fight. But if someone takes the first swing at you, knock their ass out.
- Never hit a girl.
- There will always be someone bigger and better than you. So do your absolute best and be happy.
- Lefty loosey; Righty tighty.
- Always stand up for what you know in your heart is right.
- Family comes first.

Great list Daniel! The last is as great as the first.
That was really sweet Daniel! Made me all weepy in the eyes. ( You got to bat your eyes…like ‘dis )….famous dad quote:)
I hope your having a great Father’s Day today and I hope you remember it is your day too so take some time for just you, Keli and the kids!!!
I love you!
Can I add just ONE more thing to your list???
11.) Hawaiian shirts REALLY do go with plaid designed shorts!!
My dad never taught me the “lefty loosey, righty tighty,” he just showed me how to do it. Years later when I was exposed to it (I think I was in my late teens), I was horrified. I lost the ability to work screwdrivers and lightbulbs without repeating that inane, foreign litany. I hope never to expose my own child to it.
#8 is my favorite. I think #11 should be “Grow a mustache” and then you should immediately follow that advice.
Great list, happy father’s day both to you and your father
