    California needs a constitutional convention, and for a lot more reasons than gay people getting married. It has been far too easy, frankly, for us to amend our state constitution. It has gotten to the point where official online copies don’t show the full document but rather a search engine. We amend the damned thing sometimes twice in the same year, and often with rather scant majorities. I support the general notion of the proposition system, by which the people can bypass the legislature by popular referendum. This results in a jumbled, confusing, and often internally-contradictory fundamental legal document for our otherwise-great state.
