Surprise!

Last night I was forced to realize that my wife is a scheming, sneaky woman who goes behind my back and makes plans.

That’s right. She had the nerve to spend the past month planning a surprise party for me, at my favorite local hangout – the Russian River Brewing Company – with a lot of friends and some family. There were many pitchers of awesome beer, including my favorite, Damnation, pizza and beer bites.

Afterward, we went up the street to an “Irish pub” called “Stout Brothers”. I put Irish pub in quotes because, while the decorations are very pub-y, it does not give off the comforting pub feeling and atmosphere of another actual Irish pub in town called The Black Rose. The Stout Brothers bar is much more of a meat-market than anything else. But it was fun getting out with friends and family, being able to get loud and rambunctious… and over served.

The evening was just what I needed. It’s been a long several months and a night out to let loose a little bit and just be surrounded by friends and family helped beat away the cabin fever.

I even got a few gifts!

My sister and brother-in-law bought me a collection of stories from H.P. Lovecraft, Dreams of Terror and Death: The Dream Cycle of H. P. Lovecraft

My buddy Alex gave me a copy of a book he recently read and was raving to me about, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. If you like zombies, this is definitely a must read!

My friend Julian, whom I’ve known since Kindergarten gave me a very nice bottle of 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Hill Family Estate.
