28-Day Challenge

28-Day Challenge

About three weeks ago I joined a gym and have been going semi-regularly. Semi-regularly in the “I try to go a couple of times a week” sense. Last week I told myself that after the holiday weekend, I would start back on my healthy eating and exercise goals. It just so happened that one of the blogs I read, Nerd Fitness, posted today that the next 28-Day Challenge started today. Perfect time to motivate myself to start back with some fresh, focused goals. Here’s what this month’s 28-Day Challenge encompases:

Today is the start of the next 28-Day Challenge. Hop on the Nerd Fitness Message Boards (completely free), and post THREE goals that you hope to accomplish in the next 28 days. Two of these goals can be fitness related (do three pull ups, fit into size 36 pants, or follow a Paleo diet, for example).

The third goal needs to be something related to leveling up your life outside of fitness: whether it’s setting up a 401k or Roth IRA, starting a blog, taking a Spanish class, building that swing set that’s been sitting in a box for months, whatever. Nerd Fitness is about more than just losing a few pounds and getting stronger – it’s about finding balance in your life, taking action, and making things better.

So, here are my goals for the next 28 days:

  1. Do strength training Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while doing at least 40 minutes of cardio on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  2. Be able to do 3 pull-ups. Right now I can’t even do one.
  3. For my “life goal,” I want to be a more patient and attentive dad to my 3 kids. I’m very involved with my kids, but I find that in multi-tasking to get the daily items done (cook dinner, help with homework, etc) I don’t show my children that I’m 100% focused on them as much as possible.

Since I’m the kind of person who needs accountability and motivation to keep me going, otherwise I’ll justify myself right off of the path to my goals, if you follow me on Facebook you’ll see some auto-posts from Foursquare.

Foursquare is always met with vehemently Pro or Con views, and that’s fine. But by checking into the gym’s FourSquare listing, I can demonstrate, mostly to myself, that I did it. I got up off of my lazy ass, stopped making excuses and cranked out some cardio or weight lifting. To quote “Malibu’s Most Wanted,” “Don’t be hatin’!”

Anyone want to join me on the 28-Day Challenge from Nerd Fitness?
