Last month I wrote a post about Rickey Henderson being voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In that post I also talked about the one baseball card I’ve always wanted but was never able to get my hands on, for various reasons.

Today Keli checked the mail and had a surprise for me: She won that same baseball card in an eBay auction for me. That was just the beginning though! The auction she won was not only for that one card, but for a whole stack of mint condition Rickey Henderson baseball cards!

As I looked through the cards, I realized that most of them were ones I had in my collection, before it was stolen. Years ago, someone cut the lock off of our storage unit and stole a bunch of stuff. Among the stolen items were my three binders of baseball cards -damn near my entire collection. All of my Nolan Ryan, Don Mattingly, Oakland A’s (From when they were actually good) cards, etc were all taken.

With the cards Keli bought for me, I feel like some of them were never missing. Sure they’re just pictures printed on thin pieces of cardboard, but those cards are silly little symbols that remind me of many happy days when I was a lot younger.

Thank you, baby! This really means a lot to me. Especially since I know how much you hate baseball.

It’s about damn time, too! Being one of my all-time favorite baseball players, it’s awesome to find out that he was voted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, joining the likes of others such as Wade Boggs, Cal Ripken Jr., Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron, Cy Young, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams, to name a few.

Rickey Henderson, widely considered the greatest leadoff hitter in the history of baseball, was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame Monday on his first ballot with 94.8 percent of the votes cast by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

…Henderson established himself as baseball’s supreme leadoff hitter by banging out 3,055 hits in a 25-season career spanning four decades (1979-2003) that included four tours with the Athletics and stops with the Yankees, Blue Jays, Padres, Angels, Mets, Mariners, Red Sox and Dodgers.

Unfortunately, this event just reminds me that I have yet to locate the one baseball card I have wanted every since I saw it as a kid: The one with Lou Brock and Rickey Henderson in suits holding a base with the number 939 on it, to commemorate May 1, 1991, when Rickey surpassed Lou’s record.

On a semi-related note, the Oakland A’s just got Giambi back, so next season is TOTALLY our season!

In b4 “people still watch baseball?”
