For the past couple of months I have hardly posted. I wish there was some totally justifiable reason for the unexpected hiatus.

The truth is, as with many times, life gets in the way. Instead of letting me spend my day goofing off with my kids, showering my wife with gifts and writing to my hearts content without a single notion of “writer’s block”.

As I said – Life gets in the way. I’ve found that my creativity hits mid-day while I’m at work and unable to blog or write and by the time I get home after work, have the kids in bed and sit down at the computer, the words aren’t there. I keep plugging away at it and getting some sentences together really feels like climbing Mt. Everest on bloody stumps. That will pass, I know, as it has so many times before.

To fill that time I’ve become addicted to “Lost” with Keli. We’re one episode into season 3 and after each one we seem to look at each other with that “OMG! DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?!” A co-worker was nice enough to let us borrow seasons 1 and 2 so on the weekends when we reached the end of a disc we could pop the next one in and not have to wait. Now, though, we have to time it so that we have the next disc from Netflix when we watch the last episode of the current disc. Otherwise we’ll lose our minds. I have no clue how some of you people dealt with the anxiety of watching one episode each week.

I’ve also been slowly getting into the Battlestar Galactica series. I’m only about halfway through season 1 but so far it’s a decent series. I’m hoping it picks up because, for a sci-fi series, it’s pretty slow.

I had intended this post to be longer, but fittingly enough, life got in the way again. My wife just called and apparently we have a fast leak in one of our tires. Happy Friday, huh?

Tomorrow tickets go on sale for the San Francisco screening of “Serenity” as part of the Can’t Stop The Serenity charity event. The screenign will take place on Saturday, June 21st, 2008 and last from 6-11pm.

Can’t Stop The Serenity is an event where “Fans of the science fiction movie ‘Serenity’ will be holding screenings in 51 cities in nine countries to raise money and awareness for Equality Now, an international women’s rights advocacy group. In its second year, Can’t Stop The Serenity looks to raise over $100,000 in donations for the charity.” You can read the entire press release online at PRWeb.com

In 1992, Jessica Neuwirth founded Equality Now (link opens external window) along with Navanethem Pillay and Feryal Gharahi, to address the gender disparity in the human rights movement, which had grown to dismiss violations as “cultural” or “private”. Issues such as domestic violence, rape, female genital mutilation, trafficking, and reproductive rights were not part of the agendas of established human rights organizations.

Neuwirth was a student of Lee Stearns, who founded the first Amnesty International chapter run exclusively by high school students. Stearns is Joss Whedon’s mother.

Whedon has been outspoken in his support of the organization and gender equality initiatives. You can hear his remarks on why equality is paramount in this YouTube clip (link opens external window), where he accepts a special recognition award from Equality Now.

In picking Equality Now as the organization receiving the proceeds of the global screenings, the organizers of Can’t Stop The Serenity voice their support of the work done around the world by EN.

For those of you who itemize your taxes each year, Equality Now is a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible in the US.

Over $160,000 has been raised for Equality Now since 2006 from these screenings of Serenity.

For more information, check out Can’t Stop The Serenity and see if there is a screening in your town!
